Our Story
Hello! We are David and Rachel Peiffer, owners of Home Made Renovations, a husband and wife design team renovating and beautifying old homes in Nashville, TN.
David has always had a gift for design. He grew up drawing designs of houses as a boy. He would also join his Dad, a gifted carpenter, doing renovations on their personal home. Later he began working for his parents’ company, Epic Home Cinema, building movie theaters in residential homes. After moving to Nashville, David was still working in the audio/video industry but was missing the passion of creating and designing. What started out as a bucket list dream of buying a fixer upper turned into the heart of our company today - Home Made Renovations.
In 2015 we bought a HUGE fixer upper. The house was built in 1917 and had been turned into a quadraplex. It was a sad sight!
Raw sewage in the basement, cigarette smoke soaked into the walls, bed bugs, cockroaches, dirt, dust, mildew, termite damage…you think of it- it probably had it. It was gross. It hadn’t been loved or taken care of in YEARS. But I (Rachel) could see the beauty. As did David…in time. It boasted 2400 square feet of space, 10-foot ceilings, 3 fireplaces, a gigantic front porch, a beautiful, large lot and was oozing with timeless Craftsman architecture.
We treated the house for the bugs, demoed out the 4 apartments, gutted the house down to the studs with all new electrical, plumbing, drywall and paint and treated the basement. We slightly opened up the rooms creating more space in the floorplan.
We designed a well thought-out and gorgeous master suite. We put in support beams. We refinished original hardwood flooring. We added a STELLAR kitchen. We embraced exposed brick. We trimmed out and beautified the fireplaces. We landscaped and brought back the beauty of this 1917 Craftsman home.
By 2017 David went out on his own leaving the audio video industry for good and jumped fulltime into residential home renovations. We started small and humble but by 2020 we were still humble but growing quickly. While General Contractor David handles build design and layout I, Rachel, help with interior/exterior design, color scheme, lighting, fixtures – all the pretty stuff. Together, we make a pretty darn good team and we LOVE what we do and hope you do too!
